Built here

Leaf & Blade began with a simple idea: outdoor spaces should be built with the same care and intention as the homes they surround.

A Denver company, from the ground up

Leaf & Blade was founded in Denver, and for the past nine years we've been designing, building and renovating landscapes across Denver and the Front Range, from patios, retaining walls and irrigation systems to complete outdoor transformations.

Along the way, it grew beyond traditional landscaping into what it is today: an outdoor living company that looks at the entire property and brings it together. Concrete and hardscape, irrigation, planting, lighting and the details in between, built as one space meant to be lived in.

Meet the founder

Austen Axtell

I'm a Denver native, and I've spent the better part of the last decade building landscapes here.

I started Leaf & Blade because I liked creating things I could stand back and look at when the job was finished. Over the years, that grew from individual projects into larger renovations: concrete, hardscape, irrigation, retaining walls, planting and complete outdoor living spaces.

It also taught me that a successful project comes down to what was built underneath the finished yard, how the systems work together, and how the customer was treated while we were there.

That's why I stay personally involved in our projects. I want you to be able to call, ask a question and actually reach someone who knows your property and knows what's happening on the job.

We'd rather do good work, communicate well and build something we're proud to put our name on than be the cheapest landscape company in Denver.

Experience you can see

Nine years in the field changes the way you look at a landscape.

Weathered hands setting a red brick on a mortar bed along a taut string line, trowel in hand.
  • Shortcuts we don't take

You learn where they tend to get cut, and what it costs a few seasons later. We don't take them, and we can spot the ones somebody else left behind.

  • Drainage and grading first

Drainage and grading are settled before the patio goes down, because nothing built on top survives water that has nowhere to go.

  • Proper base preparation

Proper base preparation is invisible on day one and obvious years later. It's the difference between a patio that stays flat and one that heaves.

  • Materials and plants for the climate

Intense sun, freeze-thaw and limited water change which materials and plants belong here. The details nobody sees matter as much as the ones they do.

We bring that experience to every Leaf & Blade project, from a single new feature to a complete property renovation.

Owner-led by design

You shouldn't have to chase down the person who sold you the project

Leaf & Blade is owner-led on purpose. From the first walkthrough and planning through construction and the final details, Austen stays involved.

That means fewer layers, clearer communication and one person accountable for seeing the project through. As we've grown, we've kept that part simple:

Know the property, know the plan and answer the phone.

Crafted with purpose. Built with integrity. Designed to last.

Whether we're building a patio, installing an irrigation system or transforming an entire property, those three principles don't change.

We do the work with intention and stand behind the result.
